Obituary of Douglas Earl George Green
Douglas Earl George Green
June 10, 1954 – February 1, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Doug. Surrounded by his family and in the comfort of his own home, Doug passed away on Saturday, February 1st, at the age of 70.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Marion Green; his sister, Betty-Jean Brookes; and his brother-in-law, Murray Thomas. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Billie; his loving daughter, Sarah; his son-in-law, Matthew; and his cherished grandchildren, Eric and Frances, the light of his life. Doug is also survived by his sister, Pat Brinklow (Ric); his sisters-in-law, Cathie Vick (Denny) and Keitha Thomas; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He will be deeply missed by his two best friends, George and Jake; his golf buddies; and his church family.
A Lay Reader within the Anglican Parish of Tyendinaga, Doug was a devoted and spiritual man who worked tirelessly to support parishioners in any way he could. As vice-chair of the First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI), Doug helped pave the way for equitable access to education for First Nations students across the country.
Doug loved golf, fishing, and traveling to Myrtle Beach, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. Our dear Doug will be deeply missed, and we ask that you remember this: when you see a rainbow, smile, think of Doug, and know he is at peace.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kate Koester and the nurses of Tyendinaga Home and Community Care. Their gentle care and support over the past few months brought great comfort to Doug and our family.
Family and Friends will be received on Friday, February 7, 2025 between the hours of 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at M.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held in Christ Church, 52 Church Lane South, TMT on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at a later date in the Deseronto Columbarium Wall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Anglican Parish of Tyendinaga via cheque or e-transfer (parishoftyendinaga@gmail.com).
