In Loving Memory of John Michael Auten

August 1, 1970 – June 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Michael Auten, who departed this life on June 20, 2026, at the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

John was born on August 1, 1970.  He was a man defined by his kindness and his unwavering willingness to help others.  Whether it was a neighbour in need or a community project requiring an extra set of hands, John was always the first to step up and volunteer.  Above all, John will be remembered for the warmth of his presence and the legendary, heartfelt hugs he gave to everyone he loved - a gesture his family and friends will miss the most.  He now joins those who preceded him in death, including his beloved parents, John and Bettye Auten; his siblings, Juana and Christopher; and his niece, Alicia.  John leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for those he held dear.  He will be fondly remembered by his devoted companion, Christine, and her girls; his sister-in-law, Nikki; his cherished nephews, Aidan and Kai; his niece, Justice; and his great-nephew, Keith.  He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Kristina and Jason of Michigan, and his cousin/sister from another mister, Candy Sero, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family wishes to extend a special note of gratitude to Courtney and Josh for their heroic efforts and compassion while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.  Deepest thanks also go to the Mohawk Ambulance Service and the Mohawk Fire Department for their swift response and for doing everything within their power to assist John.

Family and friends are welcome to M.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home on Friday, June 26, 2026 between the hours of 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Cremation to follow the visitation.
