Lillie Ethel LeFort (Maracle)
Of Tyendinaga Territory
Passed away peacefully, in her sleep, on Wednesday June 28th , at The Village Green Nursing Home in Selby Ontario. in her 82nd year. She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Nora Eleanor Maracle (Baptiste), as well as brothers Cedric Maracle, Delorem Maracle and Tommy Maracle and by her son, Perry LeFort. Lillie is survived by her brothers John Maracle (Debbie) Tyendinaga Territory, Larry Maracle(Sylvia) Tonawanda NY as well as her children, Linda LeFort, Neal LeFort (Alanna) and Calvin LeFort, all of Tyendinaga Territory, and Lana Heathcock (Bobby), of Booneville, MS. Also survived by her ex-husband and lifelong friend, Roger LeFort of Watford, Ontario, and her 11 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. A founding member of the Native Women’s Association of Tyendinaga Territory, Lillie will be remembered for her Community Leadership, her voice in political causes, and for her crafting creativity, beautiful gardens, pickled peppers and lemon meringue pies. She worked at Northern Telecom in Belleville for 20+ years, where she became active in the labour movement, holding offices in the UAW Local as well as being elected as the first ever female President of the Quinte Labour Council. After an early retirement due to Northern closure, Lillie went on to open and operate several small businesses in the Tyendinaga Community. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday July 5 2017 from 5-8 pm at Tyendinaga Community Centre 1807 York Rd Tyendinaga Territory.
