Russel was a gentleman, from the first time I met him. I worked for him cutting his grass, shoveling his snow and whatever else he found fir me to do. He was concerned about me when I was cutting his grass on a real hot day, he'd say you better run in there and get yourself a bottle if water from the fridge, even after hardly meeting me. He was a decent and generous man. He used to say "you're too picky." He taught me various things about small engines, and just about life. He was an honest man and he sure was proud of his family. More than once he pointed out to me the ceiling of his garage that his grandson was working on enclosing and what a good job he was doing. Once I ran over the electrical cord while pushing the mower. He laughed it off and said, "that's no problem, I can fix that," and he did! We talked about sports( Toronto of course), politics, the weather, fishing, building, his travels, his job before he retired. He was an interesting man. I always looked forward to going to his place. Occasionally he would offer to drive me home, even though I assured him I Could walk it in ten min. But he cared about people. I was fascinated with his ingenuity at how he rigged up the back door of his van so it would open, after he backed into his garage, stepping on the gas when he thought it was the brakes and he almost took out a wall! There was quite a dent in the van. Lol. The last time he drive me home was a little scarey, let's just say he didn't do the speed limit. Lol.
As I got to know Russel we became friends. I'd pop over just to visit.
He talked a lot about his 3 daughters Cindy, Julie and Lori and how much he depended on them. His family was everything to him.
Once, after he had moved into the apt at Lori's place, I stopped by to visit and was invited to play Yahtzee. I was warned, he rarely lost, and it was a serious game. I hadn't played in years. But I beat him! Didnt know if I should celebrate or apologize haha. He problem me win.
Russel, I miss you very much and I will continue to miss you, and to pray that God watches over your family, I know they mean theworld to you. Goodbye for now my friend, see you on the other side.
