My Life Friend Jack,
I stop beside your grave today to visit with the memories that you gave me.
Friend of mine, friend of my Grampa Roland Wiedmann, friend of my Papa, Mickey, friend to my Children, Nathan, Becky and Nina. Your spirit of life will go forward to my Grandchildren and their Children.
There is a song written by Murray Mclaughlan that I always thought was written for you.
The Farmer's Song
Dusty old farmer out working your fields
Hanging down over your tractor wheels.
The sun beatin' down turns the red paint to orange
And rusty old patches of steel
There's no farmer songs on that car radio
Just Cowboys, truck drivers and pain
Well this is my way to say thanks for the meal
And I hope there's no shortage of rain
Straw hats and old dirty hankies
Moppin' A face like a shoe
Thanks for the meal here's a song that is real
From a kid from the city to you
The combines gang up, take most of the bread
Things just ain't like they used to be
Though your kids are out after the American dream
And they're workin' in big factories
Now if I come by, when you're out in the sun
Can I wave at you just like a friend
These days when everyone's taking so much
There's somebody giving back in
Forever and Eternity

Who knew when my grandfather Roland Wiedmann and his wife Helen bought a farm in 1949 on the 2nd Concession near Marysville, that it would lead to four generations of Wiedmann friendships with their new neighbour, Jack Stafford.
My Aunt Edie (Hynes), a teenager at the time remembers Jack coming over to help my grandfather. Help he sorely needed no doubt, being not a farmer but a landscaper, an expert horticulturalist. "Mr. Wiedmann" as Jack called him, knew how to grow flowers and shrubs no doubt, but hardly corn nor hay.
From that first contact, another true lifelong friendship also blossomed, between Jack and my father Mickey Wiedmann. A friendship my whole family, Jean (Bryson), Linda, Joyce, Ron, Catherine, I and Karen would benefit from - each of us finding ourselves welcomed at Jack and Mary's table over the years, often. Ron, and I, benefited most of all from Jack and Mickey's friendship. Living and working with Jack and Mary (and Brenda and Clair) summers in high school and beyond.
Since that time, the 1970s, Ron and I took our kids too whenever we could to meet and spend time with Jack. We wanted what's best for them, and that meant spending a little time with a cherished old friend. The truly wonderful and helpful man my grandfather met way back when on the 2nd Concession, four generations ago.
Condolences from the Wiedmann and Hynes families to Mary, Ruth, Donnie, Brian, Brenda and Clair, and your families. Jack will be deeply missed by all of us.

On Behalf of the Staff and Volunteers of the Deseronto Public Library we would like to send our condolences. We enjoyed his and Mary's visits to the library. We were amazed at the variety of books he enjoyed and how much he loved to read. Will miss our chats and his book list request.

I have some great memories of Jack taking the time and patience to show a young city kid the lay of the land on the Stafford family farm. He had lots of stories to tell and lots of good advise. I spent one summer working on Jack and Mary's farm and lots of weekends too. I learned many things from Jack that helped me find my way in life, he was a warm and decent man. I will miss him.
